Mrs. Kriss Loftus
Regional Safe School Coordinator for
Will, Grundy & Kendall Counties
Premier Academy Middle School Principal
- Program: Regional
Safe School Program (RSSP) of
Grundy, Kendall, and Will Counties
- Purpose: To provide
an alternative education for at-risk
6th, 7th, and
8th Grade students from
Will, Grundy, or Kendall Counties
- Goals:
- To promote a structured yet
nurturing environment
- To implement a comprehensive
Individual Optional Education
Plan (IOEP) for each student
during the intake process
- To incorporate student support
services when available
In case of an
absence,
a parent/guardian MUST call to excuse
the student or they remain unexcused:
call 815-774-8901 to leave a
message
AND call your bus company.
Enrollment Procedure
Students must be enrolled in a Will,
Grundy, or Kendall County school and be
in grades 6th, 7th,
or 8th. These students must
be referred to Mrs. Loftus by their home
school principal or designee, who will
fax a Premier Academy Middle School
Referral Form to begin the intake
process. Students may be referred if
they are deemed by their home school to be chronically truant, if they have had multiple suspensions, or if
they are eligible for expulsion. If the
student has already been expelled, the
home school must re-enroll the student
to begin the Administrative Transfer
process. In this case, an Administrative
Transfer Form must be sent along
with the Premier Academy Middle School
Referral Form to ensure that the student
is enrolled in a Will, Grundy, or
Kendall County School.
Intake Process/Transportation
One a referral has been received,
Mrs. Loftus will set up an intake date
and time for the student, parent, and
home school official. At the intake,
which may last from thirty minutes to an
hour, Premier Academy student policies
and procedures are discussed and the
intake papers are signed. A Premier
Middle School Calendar is provided.
A start date, most often the next school
day depending on transportation
arrangements, is scheduled. Uniform
policy and transportation is discussed.
Premier Academy does not provide
transportation. This is arranged between
the parent /guardian and home school
official.
Instruction
There is a combination of
computer-based instruction and off-line
work that is aligned to the Illinois
State Standards. Students are expected
to work the entire time they are at
school. Daily performance is printed out
at the end of the week and sent home
with the students (see “Progress
and Grade Reports”, below).
Certified teachers and teacher aides
monitor and assist students as needed.
Student Support
Upon enrollment, all students are
invited to participate in groups which
include making positive choices; drugs,
alcohol, gangs, violence and pregnancy
prevention; and anger management.
Individual counseling is encouraged and
must be accompanied by parental written
consent. A packet containing all
applicable permission forms is offered
to the parent or guardian at the intake.
Students may be enrolled in groups on a
first-come, first-serve basis, depending
on when Premier receives the signed
permission packet from the parent or
guardian. These groups are a privilege
which may be removed based on student
behavior.
Progress and Grade Reports
Progress reports are mailed to the
home-schools and the student’s home
after each semester, usually mid-January
and the first week of June.
Weekly reports are given to students
each Thursday or Friday to be taken home
and signed by the parent or guardian and
returned to the teacher by the following
Monday.
